Our men got nowhere on the first day. They had been mown down like grass by German machine-gunners who, after our barrage had lifted, rushed out to meet our men in the open. Many of the best battalions were almost annihilated, and our casualties were terrible.

Ypres Trip

Colliers Wood, London - June 2008

Many thanks for the enjoyable anf interesting visit to Ypres. We were both amazed at how close the battlefirelds of Belgium are, just a few hours drive from London, but yet seem like they exist in another world. The stories you recounted of the individual soldiers as we drove around and visited their graves brought them alive again for us and we will always remember them. No one can failed to be moved by the scale of human suffering endured for the sake of what is now a few miles of peaceful farmland.

We hope to join you again for a trip to the Somme and other historical sites to learn more. We both now wished we had studied History at school!!

Kind regards, Lila and Simon Pilling

Ypres Trip

Carshalton, Surrey - May 2007

I couldn’t wait to put pen to paper (finger to keyboard!) to thank you for your part in arranging the trip to Ypres…… Having spent most of the History lessons at school gazing out of the window and dreaming of my marriage to Paul McCartney – the teacher’s fault, not mine- I realised too late in life that I have an avid interest in History and the trip filled a large gap in my education.

I enjoyed every minute of the trip. The organisation was super, the company stimulating and the subject matter very moving. Who arranged the perfect weather? Again, my sincere thanks for a wonderful trip.

Yours truly - J. Barrance.

Somme Battlefields Trip

West Wickham, Surrey - June 2007

My wife and I felt compelled to drop you a line to say just how much we got out of the visit to the Somme. It truly was a humbling and emotional experience to see for ourselves, how many young men lay buried in France, who never got a chance at a long life or to fulfil their potential. My grandfather’s brother was killed in the Arras area which we have never visited. Now, however, we both feel that we will definitely visit his grave next year. It was very moving to see Paul lay the wreath in his grandfather’s memory.....

Thank you once again for organising trips for parents and grandparents! We have certainly been fortunate to be able to participate on this visit. We would also like to thank you for your efforts on compiling the informative booklet about the war in general and the Somme in greater detail. We will definitely have to build on what we picked up on the trip.

Yours sincerely, Sam and Elsie Morgan

Normandy D Day Beaches Trip

Caterham, Surrey - June 2005

We would like to thank you for organising the trip to the Normandy last week. It was a fantastically enlightening experience and we felt we really learned a lot from actually being at the sites where many important events took place during and after D Day.

The Museum at Pegasus Bridge was amazing and it was wonderful meeting veterans of the actual landings. They were so chatty and willing to talk about their experiences, which we found so touching. We knew nothing about this part of the D Day history and found it fascinating. I will hopefully get the time to start the Stephan Ambrose book I bought at the museum there.

The visit to Sainte Mere Eglise, the next day was likewise brilliant, with its own equivalent dramatic stories. In fact, the beach and cemetery visits were all thoroughly interesting and moving, made all the more so by the information booklet which we got out and read at each site, before listening to the guide.

If you arrange another trip next year, please make sure you let us know as soon as possible. We wouldn’t want to miss it.

Many thanks once again. Peter and Belinda Springate
